Wildlife and Golf at Black Rock

Firoz, Najma, Jimmy, Patty, Cathi, Sarah, John, Ken
This weekend, Ken and I travelled to Black Rock, Idaho as guests of John & Sarah Rindlaub aboard our favorite airline, "Barrier Air" owned by friends Patty & Jimmy Barrier.  We had planned a golf get-away at spectacular The Golf Club at Black Rock over Labor Day weekend and were so pleased to be able to spend a few days with our friends, the Rindlaubs, Barriers and Najma & Firoz LaljiThe Golf Club at Black Rock was recently named in Forbes Magazine as one of the 12 best golf communities in the United States.

As always, the golf course was brutally challenging and fantastically beautiful overlooking Lake Coeur d"Alene. I played one of my best nine holes ever on the front nine (45 which is very good compared to my regular golf game).  However, once again this year, on the signature #11 hole, I could not pitch my ball up between the rocks and over the waterfall and lake onto the green, though Patty was successful in doing so once again!  There were flocks of wild turkeys and deer throughout the course which made the game even more memorable.

Najma & Firoz
Dance to the music!

On Saturday night, we had dinner in the Lodge and had the opportunity to hear the love story of Firoz and NajmaFiroz actually told two versions, one that made it appear that beautiful Najma chased him down and then the true story, where he met Najma just two days before he was getting ready to move to Canada from Uganda.  Firoz actually travelled back and forth from Uganda to Canada, and back again within one week, just so he could see her again.  There were married within the year and have been married for 46 years.  Nice!  There was a lively band playing in the cocktail lounge and as we were leaving after dinner, Patty and I joined the dancing and John also could not leave without taking a turn on the dance floor and on top of a table too of course!

Speaking of anniversarys, on our way home we celebrated Patty & Jimmy's 25th wedding anniversary with chocolate-dipped strawberries courtesy of the Barrier pilots.  Happy Anniversary Patty & Jimmy!

  1. It sounds like you had a great time in Idaho. There are so many epic golf courses in this state. I can't wait to visit it myself.
