Celebrating Ron's 70th

Last night Ken and I joined Bonnie & Ron Elgin at their home for Ron's 70th Birthday Party Dinner.  Their daughter, Alison and husband, Brett Leger were there along with their children, Logan and Hutton.

Logan gave an eloquent toast to her grandfather as did Brett, Ken and several others.  We did have to call Ken off with hisses and catcalls when he started to get into his lengthy, "values speech".

Good friends, Ted Baseler and wife, Joanne, were on hand to talk about the wines being poured for the seven-course dinner that the Executive Chef of Holland America Cruise Line who oversaw the special celebration dinner said was in honor of Ron's seven "centuries".  Some of the other celebrants included Theresa Dowell & Greg Jones, Dave & Judy Palmer, Marisa & Brad Walker, Sandy & Glenn Wright, and Dave & Trudi Syferd plus staff and passengers from Holland America Cruise Line including CEO Stein Kruse and his wife, Linda.

The menu included:
Creamy Alaskan Crab Bisque with Bourbon
Crisp Green Salad with Goose Liver and Lobster, Avocado, Fresh Berries and a drizzle of Calvados Dressing
Asian Style Steamed Diver Scallop with Black Bean Sauce, Ginger and Cilantro
Lemon Sorbet topped with Champagne
Veal Chop with Fresh Chanterelles and Huckleberry Reducton Accompanied by Grilled Polenta
Artisan Washinton Cheeses with Honeycomb and Dried Fruit
Marzipan Frosted Birthday Cake

One of the guests painted a portrait of Ron which was admired by all attending and Ron was thrilled with it.  Happy Birthday, Ron!  We all love you!
