Lunch at Goedhart Family

Brent & Sarah Goedhart with their wood-burning oven
Yesterday, Ken and I drove to Red Mountain to spend the night at their wine chateau with our friends, Tom & Anne-Marie Hedges of Hedges Family Estate.  Also joining the Hedges were our other dear friends, Trudi & Dave Syferd.

We arrived at around 12:30 pm and were immediately whisked by Anne Marie in her golf cart to her daughter and son-in-laws' home just up the hill.  Sarah & Brent Goedhart have opened their own small winery, Goedhart Family, which produces around 500 cases per year.  Sarah has trained as a winemaker and a baker.  She currently is the Assistant Winemaker at Hedges Family Estate, while she and her husband, Brent, perform the winemaker duties for Goedhart together.

Brent recently built a wood-fired oven outside their home and winery and every Saturday, Sarah and Brent prepare paninis in the wood-fired oven from Sarah's homemade bread, which was also baked in the wood-fired oven.  For $10, you can get a delicious homemade panini and a glass of Goedhart wine to accompany it.  They are producing Syrah and we had the opportunity to taste their 2008, 2009 and 2010 vintages.  They also had a very small amount of crisp, delicious European-style Rose that they produced this year which we were able to sip when we first arrived.

We had a delightful leisurely casual lunch experience and purchased both bread and wine to take home with us.
