Stomp, Slither, Stalk at the ZOO Jungle Party

Tree Kangaroo
With Jimmy in Portugal and Ken happily at home with ZiZi, tonight Patty Barrier and I stomped, slithered and stalked away to attend the Woodland Park Zoo Annual Jungle Party and Auction.  We arrived early for a special guided visit to the tree kangaroo.  What an enchanting face on this beautiful little animal with the extremely long tail.

It was fascinating to find out that these animals prefer to be solitary, so unless they are mating, they are kept in separate areas in the zoo to prevent them from fighting and injuring one another and killing baby Joeys.  The tree kangaroo keeper, Beth, told us that there are currently only 50 tree kangaroos in captivity in North America and that our zoo is considered one of the best and most knowledgeable about how to care for this species.

There were a multitude of real animals and faux animals on display this evening, including pigs, a giraffe and a Macaw.  During the cocktail party, we ran into many friends we knew including Steve Goldfarb, Stewart Parker, Scott Rabinowitz,  Donna Jo Hudson, Pat Wallace, Sheila Otter, Patti Savoy, Claire Angel, Stacy Lill, Mary Odemat, Pam Eakes, Susan & Mike Redmond, Brian Olive, Steve Kutz, Courtney Womack, Chap & Eve Alvord, Krista Grinstein, Peter & Kelly McLoughlin, Ann Wykopf, Denise & Michael Nielsen, Alicia & Michael Hatch and dozens of others.

Along with others, we joined Bunny & Michael Vena, Lisa Hesse, Annie Croco and JJ McKay at the Barrier table for dinner and the Live Auction.  At one point, JJ wanted to visit some of the other tables to say hello and invited me to join him on a "fruit loop"??  Don't ask.  I have no idea!  But we did see other friends on our loop through the tent including Anthony & Lillian Bay, Lisa Silver, Dan RosenPam Schell, Deanna & John Oppenheimer and newlywed, Jan Hendrickson to name just a few.

What a fun evening and Patty and I left early enough to beat the SR-520 bridge closure!
