A Friendship Cruise Aboard the Virginia V

Len Cereghino, Susan Taylor, Carole Ellison
Last night Ken and I joined many friends aboard the 1921 steam-powered passenger vessel, Virginia V for a cocktail cruise from Lake Union into Lake Washington and back again.  We boarded the boat near the new MOHAI location on Lake Union after wheedling a parking pass from the The Center for Wooden Boats.  Thank you to the kind and beautiful young woman who took pity on us and gave us a pass!

It was a blistering hot evening (something unusual to say about a Seattle summer evening) and the boat was not air-conditioned.  Since ladies do not sweat, I was positively glowing by the time we walked on board, through a very warm salon where the windows do not open and to the aft deck where the bar was located.  Everyone was crowded into the small aft-deck because it was outside and there was a slight breeze.

Thank you to our hosts, Carole Ellison and Bob Cremin, we enjoyed seeing so many friends, some of whom we see frequently and others that we don't get to see very often including Nancy & Charlie Hogan, Carol & Spike Anderson, Susan & Gary Neumann, Diane & Gordon Kuenster, Nancy & Van Strom, Jan Rogers, Kathie Price, Susan Taylor & Len CereghinoEddie FisherSue & Tom Raschella, Toni & Rod Hoffman, Suzy & Moe Krabbe, Larry Kring, Peter Horvitz, Aya Hamilton & Drew Welk, Sue & Chuck Andonian, Marty Smith, Sue & Tom Ellison, Penny & Mick Thackery and dozens of others.

We enjoyed seeing the house boats in Lake Union and then cruised through the Montlake Cut into Lake Washington for a delightful tour of the Medina waterfront homes.  A buffet supper was served while we were underway and ended with a petite berry cobbler topped with whipped cream.  Yum!

When we came back into Lake Union at the end of the cruise as it ws getting dark, the downtown Seattle skyline was lit up and spectacular and so was the Space Needle.  It was so perfect that it didn't seem it could possibly be real.  My camera did not do the dark photos justice unfortunately.

Once safely back at the dock, as we disembarked, we were handed a brightly tissue-wrapped gift which oddly enough turned out to be a box of Barnum animal crackers and a Twinkie!?  I'm not sure what that was supposed to signify, particularly since Bob said it was from MOMA.  Perhaps we got early Trick or Treat gifts and the MOMA gifts are awaiting the trick or treaters at the end of next month??

  1. Looks like you had tons of fun, I'm jealous. I need to start looking for birthday cruises as gift to my wife. We're gonna celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Hurray!

  2. A cruise ship! Wouldn't it be nice to have a wedding in a cruise ship? Then bring along the long island caterers with you and create a heartwarming event in your life.

  3. Yeah, seems like you guys had a blast. One of my goal is to take my mom on a luxury cruise too because it's one of her dream. My target is one year after her chiropractic therapy.
